Branding strategy & design
Build a brand people understand, remember and choose.
Strategy, positioning, messaging and visual identity for growth-focused New Zealand businesses ready to launch, evolve or step into a bigger market.
The thinking before the visuals
Because looking like everyone else is expensive.
In a crowded category, your brand is either doing the heavy lifting or you’re paying to make up for it—in ads, in discounts and in time spent convincing people you’re worth choosing.
Your brand is more than how the business looks. It’s what you stand for, who you’re for, why someone should choose you—and how that idea carries across your website, packaging, content and marketing.
We begin with the strategy, positioning, audience and messaging. From there, we shape the creative direction and work with trusted designers to translate it into a visual identity that holds together wherever the brand appears. Our senior marketers lead the entire process, so the thinking doesn’t get lost between the strategy and the final files.
Brand services
From the first impression to everywhere the brand goes next.
Strong creative needs a clear strategic foundation. If yours is already in place, we can move into identity. If it isn’t, we’ll usually begin with the Marketing Playbook before bringing the brand to life.
Brand identity
Best for: New businesses building a brand from scratch, or established businesses whose current identity no longer reflects where they’re going. Built for growth-focused service and consumer brands ready to show up with more clarity and consistency.
Brand identity is where the strategy becomes a visual language your customer can recognise and remember. Working from the strategic foundation, we shape the creative brief and lead the identity process through moodboards, two design directions and three rounds of feedback to develop the chosen direction properly.
What you'll walk away with:
- A logo suite, submark and lockups The marks your customer will start to recognise.
- A brand pattern or texture For use across social, print and packaging.
- Business card design Supplied print-ready.
- A colour palette and typography system With usage guidance so it's applied consistently.
- Brand guidelines The document that keeps your brand looking like itself, no matter who's briefing the work.
Need the strategy first? Our Marketing Playbook defines the positioning, audience, offer and messaging the identity needs to express. We’ll let you know during discovery whether that foundation is needed before the creative work begins.
Packaging & brand applications
Best for: Businesses ready to take an established identity into the physical world—from packaging and retail through to print, vehicles, signage and event environments.
This is where the identity meets the shelf, the hand, the road and the room. We scope each project around the applications you actually need and bring in the right creative partners, so the brand stays coherent wherever your customer encounters it.

Brand work, in practice
The strategy gives the identity something to say.
One needed to stand apart in a category full of trade clichés. The other needed to feel credible before its first conversation. Different businesses, with identities built from a clear strategic position.
Moody Electrical · Brand identity
A trade brand built with the same care as the work behind it.
We positioned Moody Electrical around thoughtful workmanship, attention to detail and quiet confidence, then translated that thinking into a creative brief for Holiday Studio. The resulting identity feels distinctive without relying on the usual lightning bolts, fluorescent colours or trade clichés.
Protea Audit · Brand identity
Rigour, without the usual corporate stiffness.
We positioned Protea as a specialist audit firm with the rigour of a larger practice and the attention of a boutique team. Holiday Studio translated our strategic direction into an identity that feels established and authoritative, without losing the warmth behind Lourika’s way of working.
Frequently asked questions
-
Not always. If you already have a clear, documented strategic foundation—including your positioning, audience, offer and messaging—we can usually move directly into the identity process.
If those decisions are still unclear, we’ll recommend beginning with the Marketing Playbook. That gives the creative work something meaningful to express and prevents the identity from being built around personal taste alone.
-
Artura’s senior marketers lead the strategy, positioning, messaging, creative brief and overall project direction. We then work with trusted specialist designers to translate that thinking into the visual identity.
You still have one connected process and one team guiding the project. We manage the handover between strategy and design so the original thinking doesn’t get diluted along the way.
-
Yes. Our Marketing Playbook can be completed as a standalone project. You can then take the strategic foundation to your existing designer, internal team or another creative partner—or return to Artura when you’re ready to develop the identity.
-
Yes. We can carry an existing identity into packaging, print collateral, retail and point-of-sale materials, vehicles, signage, events and other physical applications.
These projects are scoped individually because the requirements can vary significantly. We’ll bring in the right creative and production partners for the work involved.
-
We don’t create logos in isolation. A logo needs a clear position, audience and creative direction behind it if it’s going to represent the business properly and remain useful as you grow.
If you’re at the very beginning and aren’t sure what level of branding you need, start with a discovery call. We’ll tell you honestly what foundation is necessary and whether Artura is the right fit.
-
Brand identity and application projects are quoted individually because the scope depends on the strategic foundation already in place, the identity system required and where the brand needs to appear.
A complete brand identity generally takes six to eight weeks. Packaging and other custom applications are scoped after the first call. You’ll receive a clear written proposal before deciding whether to proceed.

We’re based in Whanganui and work with growth-focused businesses across New Zealand. Our process works well remotely, with clear stages for discovery, strategy, creative direction, feedback and final delivery.
